Fished for 1/2 hr

then went to stock with Steve for the AKHF trout tournament held at the Yellow Creek Trout Club.

I have been helping Steve stock the club for years, and we have put literally thousands of trout in the stream.  This stocking was hands over fist the most really big fish I have ever seen put in  a stream in all my years of fishing.  In some spots I personally put in 5 fish in the 20 inch range, and I couldn’t even guess how many fish we put in that should be measured in pounds.  The amount of big fish we stocked was just plain incredible.  8-9 lb fish and some stocking places got 2 or more of them.May4

I might be a broken record for excuses lately, but my camera battery died.  This fish isn’t even close to being the biggest we stocked today!

Hoping for little or no rain tonight.

Got this brown

satbrownmay

and 2 others, one I forgot to turn the camera on, another broke me off, all at the Strait Stretch.  This location is just loaded with big trout.  Most places at the club are, but in the low clear water, you can see these huge fish everywhere.  I saw a rainbow that is 30-31.  Could not get him to take a look though.

Ran into Nathan and Al, and can’t wait to fish with these guys at the AKHF tournament again this year.  Dodged some rain, but the weather, water, and companionship were perfect.

Got a palomino

april goldthe one and only at the club, that we know of.  Did lose a monster brown at the net on the lower quad stretch.

The creek was in great shape and I put a good 10 hrs of fishing in, weather was great, etc.  I did not have a memory card in my camera and I was lucky enough to have a buddy send me a pic of the goldy.

Another Opening Day

opening day

has come and gone.  Went to Little Sandy with Frank and we finally had a great day.  Nothing big, but we did land a lot of fish.  Not too crowded and water was perfect.  No palomino’s again this year.  I think they might be getting caught on the mentor’s youth day.  Maybe not.

Did go over to the club and on my first 5 casts I caught 5 fish.  Never did that in my life.  Things did slow down, but ended the day with a bow around 22 inches.

Always look forward to this day and will be back at Little Sandy next year.

By the way, Frank said, ” Leave the camera in the car”.  Thank goodness I didn’t listen.

Beautiful April Day

perfect weather, water, and really good fishing.

Used the new Kreelex fly and man did it work!  After all the hype and finally locating the material I tied some up and tried them at the club today.  The results are pictured.  You should have seen the brown that got away, having snagged me up, me wading across deep water, freeing it from a limb…………then losing it.

Saw some old friends fishing today, and honestly 99% of the people fishing were catching fish today.
