Fished at the Cabin

in Chautauqua Creek.

Made the walk to the trestle to find the dam torn down.  Did not know where to fish until the sun came up…some guy and girl beat me to the spot.  When 5 more guys arrived I left and fished back to the car.  Zilch.

Went to the lower end and found a pod of fish and 2 really nice guys who own a fly shop in Virginia.  One guy pictured was nice enough to land my fish (pictured) as I was stuck high on some big rocks along the stream.  Another guy was nice enough to step in and be my “net man” for the day and I really appreciated the help the guys gave me.

The creek was in great shape, unlike 16 that was low when I tried to fish it.steel1steel2

Olcott/Erie/Chautauqua Trip

Joined Dan at Olcott bright and early on Monday.

The place was packed and the fishing was mediocre at best.  Hooked a big brown at first light, but lost him due to a crossed line. The same guy also kept a foul hooked fish even after 2 people advised him it was fouled.  Did manage a nice brown (pretty-not huge) and this might have been the same fish.

Went up the creek and found a huge pod of kings.  After catching 5 or so I called it a day.

Went to 16 and got the prime spot there at the dam.  Hooked 0, saw 0 caught.  A guy crossed me, then crossed me again, and he left.  He approached me at the car when I was leaving and apologized.  I told him that is all part of steelhead fishing, but I really appreciated the gesture.  As the guy at Olcott damaged my picture of Great Lakes fishing, the guy at 16 kinda made things right.

The report from 20 Mile was bad.

Hit Chautauqua Creek in NY.  Perfect water, but so packed with people fishing was nearly impossible.

Can’t wait to get to the club.

Haven’t fished due to low water

but did help Steve stock the Yellow Creek Trout Club with around 265 fish, all bows, and 6 really big fish last week.  Every stretch has a good amount of fish and with Steve’s aggressive stocking the numbers will be up in no time.

Went to the cabin and checked out Canadaway-no water and no fish.  Chautauqua Creek-no water, some fish.  !6 Mile in Erie-no water some small fish, that were caught, and kept.  Never saw 16 lower.  20 Mile-no water and a million cars.

Steelhead fishing is so dependent on flow which has been lousy for the past 2 years.

9/11 God bless America

went to the club to look at a boat and then went down to the creek to carp fish.

Managed 2 car, one really big, and the carp fishing is getting tougher and tougher.  the fish are there, but wary and wise.

The water is still cold and saw a lot of healthy and big trout.  Steve is stocking this week with cooler temps.  Check out the video below.

Been a While

but finally made it to the trout club.

Took 7 hrs to hook 2 fish, miss 2, and finally land one at the Straight Stretch.

The road has been paved.  Water was really cold today.  The carp were tough.

Did see a lot of healthy trout.august23carp
