Nice day for carpin at the club

nickcarp

but the fishing was not easy.  A lot of guys enjoy the club for carp, and who could blame them?

The pic with me holding the fish  was taken by buddy, Nick.  He hit a monster today.

The fish are being pressured more and it is a lot more challenging to catch the carp; but when you do, it is well worth it.

This pic just doesn’t do this fish justice.  This was one huge fish!  I landed him and 4 more today.  The creek was cold, saw lots of healthy trout and had a blast landing some really nice carp and a really nice accidental rainbow trout.julycarp16

Went Carpin with Steve

and we had a really good day.

We worked for them, but we caught them.  I would say we landed a dozen, broke off half that many, and missed a bunch.  The carp are wary, strong, and tons of fun to catch.  Steve used a fly rod and I the center pin.

The trout we saw were in really good shape although we avoided catching them.

2 days of muskie fishing

on Lake Chautauqua with Dan.

We threw jerk baits, flies, and trolled hard and the muskie count was 0.

Dan did get a really nice walleye and a huge smallmouth, but the muskie count was 6 follows to the boat, but no takers.

Great conditions, weather, water, etc., but the muskies had lockjaw.

Tarpon!

Cross another off the bucket list.

Went to Key West with Paula, MG, and Angela and booked a charter for tarpon.  Missed one (Pa hook set) but hooked a fifty pounder on a black/purple bunny fly.

After a 20 minute fight, finally landed him.  At least 5 huge jumps, 100 yds of backing, and busted knuckles from palming the reel I finally landed him.

The guide has great pics and I am awaiting him to email them to me.  Until then, this is the best pic I got.  It does this fish no justice.tarpon
