Halibut fishing in Alaska

with Paula and 4 members of our cruise ship.

Although early for the year we decided to give halibut fishing a shot.  We caught a grand total of one fish…and the person who has the least amount of fishing experience boated the only fish…..Paula!  The name of the fish escapes me.

We did see some sea lions and whales along with calm water and beautiful mountains surrounding us.

One of our guys stepped up and helped bait hooks and even steered the boat, freed us from a tangled crab pot, and he was a first mate extraordinaire.  Thanks for your help!

All in all it was a fun trip and I can’t wait to get back up to Alaska again in July of 16.

some really great guys from Maryland with Steve and I know the guys had to be pleased.

These guys drove up to the club and I had the pleasure of working with the two youngest sons.  Though limited in experience with a fly rod, the guys took to casting, hooking, and landing fish like a duck takes to water.

Spent the morning down stream where the guys learned to cast and then started catching fish, ending with about 6 or so a piece.

After lunch we went to the black hole and I would bet they caught between 12 – 15 each there.  They put on a clinic!

Dad and son in law joined us at the black hole, and they did the same.  Steve said they both had banner days as well.

What a great day, great guys, and great fishing provided by the Yellow Creek Trout Club and Steve Renosky.mary1mary2mary3mary4

Trout Tournament

In the Alle Kiski Health Foundation trout tournament:
Al kicked some major butt in the numbers.
Nathan got a brown as pretty a fish I have ever seen.
Buddy, Bill pitched in and had a great day…thanks again.
And the Yellow Creek Trout Club provided outstanding fishing!
John Pastorek and Steven Renosky and crew did an outstanding job again this year! Well done, guys!

Opening day 15

did not disappoint.

Got there really early and pounded them at Campbell’s and then again, at the grate.  Did ok at the usual spots.

After lunch went back out and picked up 6 above the lower quad.  Then met up with Steve and we caught a few above the curve.

Ended the day with the fish pictured.  Steve got this huge brown below the walking bridge.stevebigbrown opener15

Frank

frankpica fishing buddy from long ago went with me to Brookeville to scout for Saturday.

Seeing and catching nothing there, we ventured to the Yellow Creek Trout Club.  This is a video of Frank and his first fish at the club.

We caught several others there including a few around 20 and one over 22.  Great day with a great friend.
