After 42 years

bob and Imy college roommate and I still get together and today we did so at the club.

The creek did not disappoint as we caught a bunch of fish, lost our share of beauts, and shared a lot of great memories and relived some stories from the past.  But the really good part is, we don’t just live in the past, but continue to build our relationship in the present.  So good to see Paulik and his brother Jack again.

Did some guiding

at the club with a bunch of great guys.  Took a guy, TJ, out for his first fly fishing trip ever.  After telling him how I went a whole year without a fish, he makes his first cast, and you guessed it……….bang, tj1the bow you see pictured.  He was a really great student and within a half hour he was on his own catching fish.

We wound up at the black hole where we met up with the guys and they were fishing with Max Starks.  When he arrived I tied on a fly and had him drop it off the bridge and wham!  there he was into a nice bow.  I had him run across the bridge, handed him down his rod, and filmed him landing his first Yellow Creek trout.

So the day went well, perfect weather, great food, caught a bunch of fish, met new friends…a great day at the club for sure.  Check out the video below.

The tournament is over

and we had a great time as usual.  The Alle-Kiski health foundation pulled through and delivered a great event as they always do.

We drew the hole below the curve and the hole above it.   Al got a 23 incher, which was not the biggest fish of the day, believe it or not.    In the hole above I got a 22 inch fish, that was 3 inches away from the winner.  This tells you just how great the Yellow Creek Trout Club is!

We did come in 2nd place which was really nice.

I owe a few pics to the blog, which I will soon post…………..Met Elizabeth, an old friend, of mine and Bridget’s, with her dad Steve who took pics of the event…will try to post some of  of these too.

Started

at Little Sandy to see if there were any breeder palominos left.  And there were.  Spent 3 hrs trying to get them, to no avail.  Did catch some small bo’s, brookies, and even a smallmouth, but I turned my attention to the club and drove there.

Got there at noon and went to the lower quad bridge and picked up a couple of nice rainbows.  But the first story of the day is the fish I saw spawning above the curve.  Two big rainbows were fanning silt, etc and preparing spawn beds.  Steve will try to film this at a later time.  So cool!

Story 2 was the tan caddis I saw all over my truck and the black stoneflies hatching on the creek.  Gotta be good water quality.

The last story was the 23″ bow I caught to end the day.  A pic is coming.
