It rained
like I have never seen it rain on the opening day of trout.
Went to Brookeville with nephew Dan and it never quit raining for a second. When we got to the open water the creek was quite fishable and we saw one lucky guy land 2 fish in the mid twenty inch range. But not for us. It was a “bait day” and we could not even get a look in the open water.
The fly project was a lot clearer and there we did catch some small brooks and browns, maybe 20 between us. I had a ball, but wish the rain would have cut us some slack as I really enjoy the open water section and a chance to land a big brown or palamino, but it just wasn’t meant to be. Oh well, 364 more days until the next opener.
Dan and I met Al
at the club and Al got 12 at the rock before we met up. I had a decent day, landing 2 really nice fish at the lower quad bridge.
But, the story of the day was Dan, who put on a clinic and a half. He was nailing fish left and right, and all on a new carp fly he came up with. The only fish that would not hit the new fly was a carp. At the boulder hole, step dam, Dan was the man, and I gotta tip my hat to him. We are both tying up the new pattern and I can’t wait to try them this weekend.
Yellow was high
but very fishable. When I got there I picked up 4 at the walking bridge. Got a few more at the hole above the curve and at the boulder hole, where I lost a beauty.
Went back up and met up with Steve. We struck out at the step dam, but got a few on buggers at Al’s rock. From there we went way down, but had no luck there. On the way back, Steve lost a beauty at the boulder hole. We did get a few at the hole above the curve, and that ended the day. The story of the day was the fish lost.
The water is falling at the club, so look out.
Yellow was blown out
so I did fish, but at the pond. That is where I caught this beauty.
So, after another small trout and a bass, I left the club and went to Bull Creek, knowing the flow there would be ok. I picked up 8 fish in an hour and a half and thought I would do an early exit for home. But, at the car I saw a nice hole below the parking lot and couldn’t resist fishing it, and picked up another 4.
