Creek was stocked and I got there at dawn. Was beaten there by a guy and his girlfriend and he was new to fly fishing. I got him some tippet, fixed him up with a couple of good flies and the 3 of us fished 3 pools side by side, with at least 25 fish in each pool. It was pretty much the same as Deer Creek, the fresh stocked fish hit anything you threw at them.
Caught a barrel full of fish and when the rains came I left having had a bunch of action, helping to convert a newcomer to fly fishing, and wanting to stay dry, I made my way to the car. See you next March, Bull Creek and Deer Creek.

Deer Creek
was stocked, so I got up early and went to the best spot on the creek at dawn.
Did not catch many there and the fish I did catch were small. Made my way downstream to where the guys who stocked were fishing, so I knew I was in spot that held a lot of fish. And I do mean a lot.
There were so many there that the first 3 I caught, 2 were foul hooked. Needless to say it was shooting fish in a barrel there and I kinda lost track of how many fish I caught. You could spit in that water and a fish would hit it. Got a little bored after a while, so I left them for another day.
If we don’t get a lot of rain, Bull Creek tomorrow, Yellow on Sunday.
Got there
early and went to the dam below the pavillion to get the biggie we stocked there, to no avail. The hole above the curve was the ticket (again) and I got several fish there and again when Steve and I revisited the spot later in the day. I hit a lunker there and lost him at the net, but that location rocked all day long. At the step dam, I picked up several of the newly stocked fish and all in all it was a great day, with great weather, water, fish and friends. This one in the pic came from my new favorite hole, above the curve.
Went straight to Al’s rock
again to try for the big one. Caught five fish there one after another and then proceeded to practically cut my hand off on a fall. After getting bandaged up I returned to pursue the big guy…. and…. I finally got him to hit a size 12 sucker spawn. Al snapped a pic of him and I was very pleased to finally get that guy. He was 23″.
From there I went to the lower quad bridge and caught a biggie there that was even bigger than the first one.
The creek was just perfect today and I could not even guess how many fish I caught today, the action was steady all day long. My best day of the season to date by far. Another big fish got off for me at the end of the afternoon, but all in all it was a great day at Yellow.
28 degrees today
when I arrived.
My count went straight to 8 fish, courtesy of the rock and the hole above the curve. That is the good news. The bad news is, I got 2 more fish after that, and it took me 4 more hrs to do that.
The story of the day was at the lower quad bridge, I hooked about a 19-20 in rainbow. As I was netting him the flies, yes flies, popped out of his moth. My egg pattern was actually stuck in a sage bugger that was stuck in his mouth. Either Steve or I lost this fish before. I lost the fish today too, but at least he swam away with no flies attached in him. I couldn’t net him because my eyes were too frozen to get him in the net. All in all a happy ending for him.
I have yet to hit a lunker, not seeing my big friend at the rock. Did see a biggie at the walking bridge, but could not get him to even take a look at any of my offerings.
