and a chance to sight fish for some big fish. As usual Yellow Creek did not let me down. My second fish of the day was a tiger, that I promptly lost. It was pushing 25-26. While I am at it, I lost a big fish below the dam at the pavillion and yet another below the step dam that were in the same range.
The 3 pictured were below the lower quad bridge, above Al’s rock, and below the new dam. The water was just perfect (for me as I love low, clear water for sight fishing), the weather the same, and now it is time to get ready for a stocking on Fri and the Opening Day on Sat.

Steve stocked
but since my son came home after a long absence I waited to go up to the club until this morning to fish. I would call this the BB day. The BB stands for big brown. I got 3 the size of a football along with a dozen or so other fish. I lost a brookie that was over 20. The creek was green, the water not crowded, and the weather perfect. My boots weren’t however, and I gotta fix yet another leak. Thank God it was warm today.
Visited an old friend
the fly project at Brookville.
Started out with 3 quick fish and then hit a semi drought for a half hour. The air temp was below 20 degrees, and then the sun came up. When it did the creek turned on, and I mean turned on.
If I cast, and missed a fish, another would take the fly before it moved another foot. I caught so many fish it was unreal. I had solid action for 4 hours catching one after another. The largest was an 18″ brookie, but many were around a foot or so long. The steady action more than made up for the lack of size.
The fly of the day was a black ghost streamer, as I used 8 of them and all were so beat up I had to throw them away. I can’t remember a day on public water as good as this one as far as numbers go. Wow!
Stocked
on Saturday, so went up to try my luck on Sunday.
The creek was actually higher, faster, and greener than the day before.
Started at the step dam and got my line busted by a big bow. We put 3 trophies above the lower quad bridge and gave a large streamer a try there. Did not catch any of the newies, but I did get a big bow that we stocked earlier this year there. Got a few other small ones and called it an early day.
Can’t wait for the water to drop.
PS…check out the brown.
Stocked
the creek with another great bunch of fish. The water was high, fast, and off colored. For a while I thought I might get skunked, but good old Yellow gave up a fish right before I met Steve and the truck. I will be fishing tomorrow, and hope the creek drops a little over night. This was my one and only fish of the day.
